The Mabey Group designs and manufactures a range of pre-fabricated modular steel bridging for export
throughout the world. The Mabey Universal and Mabey Compact bridges are available for
hire or sale in the UK and Eire from Mabey Hire Services. Our panel bridging is supported by our
experienced in-house engineering and site teams who can provide a full design and execution service if required.
The Mabey Universal and Mabey Compact systems offer a unique combination of
span configuration, deck widths and load capacity and can be supplied
from stock complete with anti skid surfacing, parapets, kerbs and walkways if required.

Using standard components, the Mabey Panel Bridge systems can achieve single spans of up to 80m. Bridges can be provided
in multi-span form with towers designed and supplied from our stocks.

|
Our variety of build techniques are available including lift in and traditional launch. Our engineering and construction
teams will provide the safest and most economic solution for individual requirements as part of the estimating procedure.
Mabey Panel Bridges are suitable for Highway, site and pedestrian traffic. They are used throughout the UK for road
diversions, site access bridges, haul roads and pedestrian bridges, Used with the contractor deck, Mabey bridges are
regularly used in semi permanent situations in quarries and in park land or remote locations where access for bridge
construction is restricted.

Span Configurations
|
Both Mabey Compact and Mabey Universal bridge systems can be built into single
or multi-span structures. Single, unsupported spans ranging from 4.5m to 80m can be quickly erected using standard
off-the-shelf components.
Multi-span bridges of any length can be achieved; Mabey Hire Services can provide
intermediate supports constructed from our Mat-75 or Mass 50 systems.

Road Widths
Mabey Panel Bridge Systems can be configured to provide a variety of road widths to suit traffic
requirements and available space.
Standard deck configurations include:
Single Lane (3.1m carriageway)
Extra Wide (4.2m carriageway)
Two-Lane (7.35m carriageway).
Sets of non-standard width transoms are available in the hire fleet but there is limited availability; our
engineers will be pleased to advise. Cantilevered footwalks are also available giving safe access for pedestrians
outside the truss line without restricting road width.

Bridge Decks
Mabey Panel Bridge decks are available for hire in road and contractors deck format. Road decks are
suitable for all normal highway uses and are normally supplied complete with an epoxy anti-skid surfacing.
Contractors decks are of a more rugged construction suitable for site and plant platform use, the surface is normally
durbar plate although anti skid surfacing can be supplied if required.

Parapets
|
Standard P1 type parapets can be added to Mabey bridges to provide protection to the bridge structure from errant vehicles.

Erection Methods
The Mabey Panel Bridge Systems offer a variety of erection options using techniques and equipment
developed from many years of experience.
Bridges can be built either on or off the existing road line and lifted into position or launched using a cantilever
launching technique should the situation require. Our experienced engineering and site teams can advise on the
options for individual projects.

Foundations
Foundations are usually designed and constructed by the client from loadings given by Mabey Hire Services' engineers.
We are happy to supply all details and dimensions pertaining to the ends of bridge and bearings etc.
