Grosvenor Road
The first section of a 600-tonne temporary bridge over one of Northern Ireland's busiest roads was manoeuvred into position over the weekend.
The erection of the 140 metre galvanised steel structure, which will span the Grosvenor Road, is the latest phase in the £104 million Westlink upgrade.
The seven sections of the bridge were transported from Mabey Support Systems in England by lorry last week and will be hoisted into position over the next month.
When completed, the temporary structure will have a two-lane carriageway for traffic and two footpaths. In mid-October access from the Grosvenor Road to the Westlink will end, enabling work to begin on construction of an underpass and flyover at the busy junction.
Two lanes of the Westlink in each direction will remain.
When the building work is completed, the temporary bridge will be removed and used elsewhere.
The upgrade is scheduled to take three years and will create three continuous traffic lanes between Blacks Road and Divis Street Junction.
